Traveling with Pets During the Holidays

Traveling with Pets During the Holidays

During this holiday season, you may be planning a holiday trip with your pet. Our team at Dove Mountain Veterinary agree that it’s better to bring your pet with you on a trip than leaving them in a shelter. But that all depends on where you are going and if you can find pet-friendly accommodations. Here are more tips on traveling with pets during the holidays.

Be Aware of the Location of a Local Animal Hospital

If you are traveling out of the Marana area, you will want to make sure you are aware of a local animal hospital near where you are staying. That way, if you do encounter a pet emergency, you will be prepared for whatever may occur.

Bring Extra Food

If your pet has special dietary needs, make sure you bring extra pet food with you. Your holiday travel host may not be able to offer the same kind of nutrition your pet needs. You cannot rely on the local pet supply store to have your pet’s brand and style of food always available.

Keep to a Routine

Pets thrive on routine. Any time that routine is disrupted can cause undue stress for your pet. Remember, traveling away from home can make your pet feel anxious. If you can stick to your pet’s usual routine as much as possible, that will help your pet feel more at ease.

Choose Pet-Friendly Accommodations

Never try to stay in a hotel where your pet isn’t welcome. This will only make you feel worried and anxious about being found out. A feeling which your pet will likely pick up on. There are lots of pet-friendly hotels across the country. You will often find that these places even offer amenities like doggie-day care, dog walking services, and more.
